How NOT To Do A Remodel

For the past week, Mike and I have been working overnights in order to help out with the remodel. Rather, the "paint and carpet that we keep calling a remodel". There's been so much confusion about this nonsense... it's difficult to keep track of.

Originally it was a case of paint and carpetting; with additional cases coming in to add to our DVD section. We had Performance and Kids DVDs sitting in music browsers which was... well, terrible. I think everyone hated them inside of these fixtures. Somewhere along the line, they decided that we would be gaining Paperchase for our store also, which meant relaying part of the store.

Genre and bargain had to be moved to make room for Papercase. We had planned on losing two music browsers due to replacing them with DVD cases. Additionally, we're supposed to be getting in more cases for genre at some point in the near future.

Well, it was decided that we could lose a third music browser, because our music department keeps shrinking. This was actually rather cool, because it gives so much more room to everything. Though, it's sad also because... well, music is shrinking. This makes me sad, very sad.

We also lost the kids ampitheatre, which will be a good thing in the long run, due to product loss that's been happening in kids. Now people can see into kids better.

The carpet looks ... disgusting. It's "Muppets in a blender"—which was the chosen designation of it post-"Vomit". Either is appropriate. The paint scheme ... takes after our breakroom. We had four colors in the breakroom, we now have like five or six in the entire store (yellow, two greens, red, purple, orange). The red and darker green are both beautiful colors. As is the purple. But we used to have a nice cobalt blue up near the ceiling around music, which I loved; now it's yellow. Before it was a cool color and helped keep your attention focused into the actual music department, but now it's screaming yellow and your attention goes directly to the ceiling. Bleck!

I wish I had taken pics of the store before hand, because the change is drastic. We moved genre (cases did a 90 degree change), bargain isn't near the center of the store but now between info and the cafe. Cooking and health has moved to where media was, media into the last sections of DVD. DVD has now made a 90 degree twist.

The team doing the carpets and the relay were great, even in having to deal with, "I'm sorry, but can we move this here/there/away instead?" Apparently they had done the Santa Monica store too, which sounded like it was a blast (considering the elevator died on them).

All in all, I'm sure everything done will be good in the end. It's going to take some time to adjust to things, and there are some problems which still need fixing (at the moment, my main concern is for the manga, which the cases are nearly breaking due to their poor construction).

The painters on the other hand... The job had to have been subcontracted out. There is no other way to explain their lack of competence. To make matters worse, we didn't get the contract for the painters until after they had started, so we didn't know the errors they were making until it was far too late.

There is supposed to be someone in charge of the remodel; and if not, it's supposedly delegated down to the GM. However, our GM is new—not just to our store, but to Borders. She's from Waldenbooks. Not to mention, we didn't get contracts until late, there was no sequence planned out (which annoyed the construction team). Yeah, it was a bad scene over all.

Thank god Mike and I are off until Tuesday.

Time Flies

Or does it?

I haven't been playing WoW much recently, though more than Mike has. Ever since his old computer fried, it's been difficult to get him back into the game; and he's been slipping back into old favorites (like C&C Renegade).

On the other hand, we've been talking with Sharon recently and joined her on two servers: Twisting Nether (her main server) and The Venture Co.; both RP-PVP servers. On Twisting Nether we play Horde and on TVC it's alliance. Funny thing is, on TVC we're playing Katerina, Demere and Destiny. Much fun, watching those two scowling at one another all the time! Destiny gave Kat a bottle of alcohol too, which was unbearably hilarious.

The other night, I logged onto Shinku, who's still sitting at 57 and specced Resto due to the Shaman revamp. Anyhow, so I log in the other night and one of the guys in guild keeps asking for a Shaman to join in a UBRS run that was already in progress. I finally asked if 57 was high enough to join, so he asked me if I had WindFury totem. Uhm, of course!

So, into UBRS I went! Joined them right before Rend, which was an interesting fight. So I was there to drop Strength and Windfury totems, pop off the occasional heal and play with lightning. I got ... one piece of gear (maybe two actually) and absolute crap for experience. LOL But it was still fun in the end.

So I've got no 'main' at the moment that I feel like I have to play. I love all my alts, but I'm just ... I don't know. I really don't know where I should spend my time, though I know that I have to get to 60 on Shinku. If I don't ever hit 60, I'm going to like ... cry. LOL

What I really should do is get together with some people and do Scholomance and Stratholme, doing quests through them both. That ought to get me to 60 in no time at all. Yeah.

Level to 60

Man, some days, I just love the CMs on the WoW forums. Take this morning, and Emonix's lovely comment of "Level to 60." Priceless, absolutely priceless.
