Big Week: CKY and More

This was an amazing week for new music. Since we got so many albums, it is going to take me a little while (and likely a few listens) to be able to give a good judgement call. That said ... Onto the music:

Atreyu, The Curse [Limited Edition]
Yes, I know. This is not a new album, however, we did not buy it until this edition came out. I haven't fully listened to the album before (Mike heard it with Jim), so more later.

Bering Strait, Pages
Mike was shocked I like country. -_- I was raised on country. Anywho. Bought this mostly for Mike's mom, as she hadn't heard Bering Strait before. Ripped it before giving it to her. More later.

CKY, An Answer Can Be Found
FINALLY a new CKY album. Finally. It sounds amazing. It is very solid, and very CKY. I read an tiny interview with Chad recently, that explained that since he produces their albums, they will always be purely CKY albums. I love that, and can overlook how long between albums it takes. It's playing right now, and I'm loving it.

Demons and Wizards, Touched By the Crimson King
This album is intriquing me, and I haven't yet listened to it. Apparently it is the second collaboration of Iced Earth's Jon Schaffer and Blind Guardian's Hansi Kürsch. I initially grabbed it because the album name caught my attention. The first thing I thought of was Stephen King's Dark Tower series. So today when I bought it, I was pleasantly surprised to see that my belief was correct. The CD pictures the rose, and on the backside of the booklet you can see the Tower and Blaine. Speaking of Blaine, check out this lyric of Terror Train: "Come lift my spirit up, I'm Blaine!" Hotness.

The Devil's Rejects [original soundtrack]
Sadly, there isn't a single Rob Zombie track on this album. I'm going to be upset if he decides to stay out of the studio, because Rob has been one of my favorite musicians since I first heard Thunderkiss '65 on Headbanger's Ball (back when he was painting the walls). That said, the soundtrack does look good and has sound bites from the movie (which I love). Also, it has Free Bird ... Can you go wrong with Free Bird?

Manntis, Sleep In Your Grave
During Battle For Ozzfest, Mike and I were rooting for Manntis. We thought they would have made the better choice than A Dozen Furies, but oh well. We listened to Manntis on the way home, and while it sounded generic at that moment, I have to admit that I don't enjoy new music in the car as much as I do at home. At home I'm more able to relax and listen, so they will be getting second listen soon, possibily tonight.

Offspring, Greatest Hits
This may have come out last week; Mike saw it on iTunes the other day, so I added it to my buy list for today.

It's Offspring. What really needs to be said beyond that? Mike and I were very surprised at the number of songs we knew, especially considering neither of us own an Offspring album. (Correction: When I got my laptop, and was playing with iTunes, one of the first things I did was purchase Smash.) It rocks, buy it. Yep!

Okay, as I said, I haven't had a chance to listen to everything quite yet. I will update as I do listen to them.

On a side note: Our Best Buy remodeled last night, and not only after customers confused (no signage, I wandered the CDs for about 10 minutes before giving up and grabbing an employee) but so are the employees. -_- They only had CKY, Offspring and Devil's Rejects. We went back to work for the rest of the albums. Yuck. I hate buying music at work.

Semper Fi

We have a name for the puppy. Semper Fi, though when Mike does the paperwork I'm going to try and make sure he does it as Semper Fidelis, since Fi is technically an abvreviation. Mike's honoring his dad with the choice of names.

So now we need camo for the pup. LOL We almost got him a camo bed today when we went back to Petsmart. Semper didn't like the choke chain (cannot blame him), so we got a harness (and a book, as Mike didn't want to wait until tomorrow at work). Anyway, we found a camo bed there, and I said we should get it. Especially since he peed on his blanket. Silly pup.

Our New Member

puppy_sleeping.jpg puppy_with_mike.jpg

Please welcome our (nameless) new member of the family. The puppy was a belated birthday present from Mike's parents. He is a 14 week old English Bulldog. The nameless pup is one of a litter of six (two males, four females) and fully papered (or will be once we name him and send them in). We're thinking about studding him out when he's of age. At least, Mike's parents would like to, and I think it's a grand idea.

The pictures look absolutely ghetto because I cannot get my scanner to scan. So, I used the webcam to take pictures of the pictures. LOL On the brightside, since they were taken with his mom's camera, I was able to get her printer and everything set up. Tomorrow I will show her how to use it.

Anywho, I think Mike should include "Sceth" in the pup's name. He has been calling him Buttercup so far, but I don't think that will fly pedigree-wise (remember, Kahlua's papers have her listed as "Mudslide." /eyeroll ). Tomorrow we're going to get him a harness (they got him a choke chain, but he cries with it on; it's probably too soon for that), and take him up to work.

Fun fun fun!

The Historian

Currently reading. (Updated, 2006.05.30 - I never finished reading this book. It became too disorganized in its POV and highly annoying. It likely will never be a fully read book in my collection.)

I typically do not like hype in regard to anything. It tends to build up the object to unreachable plateaus, that lead only to disappointment.

That stated, posted on the wall at work between the schedules for the next two weeks was a write-up about The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. It spoke of the bidding war that occurred over the story, along with the purchase of film options and likened it to The Da Vinci Code. Having not read the forementioned book, I have nothing to compare it on in that aspect; nor do I honestly believe I'll ever read that book (at least not until the inate American desire to milk as much money out of the consumers is eradicted, and the book is finally released in mass market for the US).

I bird-walk, sorry.

The Historian had been pulled out of its boxes and prepped on a library cart. Taking a moment, I popped upon the book and read the interior flap, only to find myself utterly and completely interested in the book. When it was released yesterday, I got it for a touch over 15$—Borders is selling it at 40% off. Nice.

I read a few pages last night prior to bed, and then took it to the doctor's today, while I sat around waiting for Mike to see the doctor (good thing I brought the book, the doctor was running late).

The Historian is proving to be a very interesting tale. I cannot wait until I get a chance to dive back in.

(Sidenote: I currently have two books, Smashed and The Genius Factory, both of which I feel I have to finish reading before I continue reading The Historian.)

Finding Nemo!

I so like the new appearance of this site. I'm in little fishy heaven.

Notice that the WoW stuff is gone. I'm slowly working on a WoW site, located here. Right now it is a work in progress, but moving swiftly thus far.
